How we count weeks

Your age in weeks is the number of full weeks since your date of birth: the total days divided by 7, with the leftover days shown separately.

Example: born May 14, 1990. On November 6, 2026 that's 13,325 days, which is 1,903 weeks and 4 days.

How the life-in-weeks grid works

The grid draws a 90-year life as rows of 52 weeks, one row per year of age. Filled squares are weeks you've already lived, and the current row fills up as your next birthday gets closer. The idea was popularized by Tim Urban's “Your Life in Weeks” essay on Wait But Why, as a way to picture time in small, countable pieces.

Weeks for babies

For newborns, parents and doctors usually count age in weeks for the first months. The baby age calculator shows weeks and days together, plus months and upcoming milestones.

Frequently asked questions

How many weeks old am I?

Divide the number of days since your birth by 7. The calculator above does it for you and shows the leftover days.

How many weeks are in a year?

52 weeks and 1 day in a non-leap year, and 52 weeks and 2 days in a leap year. That's why each row of the grid starts on your birthday instead of on a fixed weekday.

How many weeks old is a 1-year-old?

On their first birthday a child is 52 weeks and 1 or 2 days old, depending on whether a February 29 fell in that year.

Why does the grid stop at 90 years?

It's a round number close to a long human life, and it keeps the grid readable. The count above still shows your full age in weeks.
