What “age as on” means
Every exam notification fixes the date on which your age is measured, called the cut-off date, as in “age as on 01-08-2026”. Your age on that date decides whether you meet the age limit, not your age on the day you apply.
Example: date of birth 14-05-1990, cut-off date 01-01-2027. Age as on the cut-off date: 36 years, 7 months, 18 days.
Reading the age limit in a notification
Notifications usually state the limit twice: as ages (for example 21 to 32 years) and as a range of birth dates (“born not earlier than … and not later than …”). The dates settle edge cases exactly, so use them in the checker above when you're close to a limit.
Age relaxation
Reserved categories get extra years on the upper age limit. These are the usual values in central government direct recruitment:
| Category | Usual upper age relaxation |
|---|---|
| OBC (non-creamy layer) | 3 years |
| SC / ST | 5 years |
| PwBD (General / EWS) | 10 years |
| PwBD (OBC) | 13 years |
| PwBD (SC / ST) | 15 years |
| Ex-servicemen and others | Varies: see the notification |

State commissions and individual posts can set different values. The notification is always the final word.
